State steps up vigil on foreign travellers amid Covid threat

The state government in Odisha is taking precautions after a new variant of the coronavirus was found in China, Japan, and the US. The state says that they have increased their vigil on foreign nationals entering the state, but have not imposed any restrictions on the arrival of foreigners nor made it mandatory for the returnees from abroad to undergo Covid tests. The recent discovery of the variant in Odisha has forced authorities to rethink their approach. Foreign returnees with flulike symptoms should get themselves tested and follow Covid appropriate behavior. There are currently about 200 foreigners in Odisha, 21 of whom are Chinese nationals.
