Mumbai: Observing that the incident was horrible, diabolic, inhuman, brutal and whose very thought sent dreadful shivers down the spine, a sessions court on Thursday sentenced a 45-year-old man to death for raping and murdering a woman inside a tempo in Sakinaka eight monthS ago. Judge H C Shende sentenced the accused, Mohan Chauhan, to death on two counts-murder, and raping and inflicting injury which causes death. Home minister Dilip Walse Patil said the state had demanded the death penalty since it was a “rarest of rare” case. The HC will have to confirm the death sentence.
