A cold wave swept the state of Odisha on Sunday, affecting life in the city of Bhubaneswar and other parts of the state. The lowest temperature of the season was recorded in Bhubaneswar at 105 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature of the year and the lowest temperature in January in the last three years. Semiliguda in Koraput district shivered at 2 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state. There were reports of frost covering fields and grounds at some isolated places in Koraput and Kandhamal districts on Sunday. In attendance was witnessed in parks, gardens, and joggers’ tracks as morning walkers preferred to stay indoors, while people were seen sitting around bonfires to beat the chill. Attendance of children in schools also dipped due to the cold, while many kids complained of running nose, cough, and cold. Thick cover of fog till late morning reduced visibility to almost zero, causing difficulty to drivers in most parts of the state. Northwesterly dry and cold wind at lower levels and an isolated cold wave under its influence is very likely to prevail over some parts of Odisha during the next two days.
