Bhubaneswar plans to make the city beggar-free by putting up “beggar-free bhubaneswar city” signage across the city. The signage will be put up at different strategic locations, and to ensure that the beggars don’t reappear on the city roads, the bmc has also decided to run the rescue vehicle with the help of which the beggars will be identified and sent back to the shelter houses. Additionally, the civic body will identify and coordinate with the respective state’s administration to arrange the return of the beggars to their own states. Citizens and activists welcomed the move, but said the civic body should ensure proper rehabilitation for the beggars.
